“The I regional symposium of Women and Fish of the Northern Amazon was held on April 2 and 3, 2013 and had the participation of more than 50 women and men to exchange experiences and knowledge about their relationship with fish as a means of life. . The event was a strategic initiative organized within the framework of the Fish for Life project by a multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary group that includes specialists from the Sustainable Water and Faunagua Associations of Bolivia and the Canadian NGO World Fisheries Trust. The workshop activities contributed to building a favorable environment for women in the northern Amazon to identify, value and recognize their contribution to fishing activity as a means of life, and to make visible in a participatory manner the spaces and actions where women participate in the chain. fish production in an integral way. The discussions were rich and informative and we feel we have only scratched the surface of what the relationship means and its important contributions of women and fisheries in the region. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that a workshop on the topic of women and fisheries has been held in the region.”
