Food security, fisheries and fish culture in Bolivia
Aquaculture
Fish farming in Bolivia is a growing industry, and has the potential to provide fish in areas where there are few fishes, and during the rainy season. It also provides economic alternatives for people living in poverty. Unfortunately, despite several projects and years of development support, fish farming technology and practice remains incipient in Bolivia.
PECES PARA LA VIDA explores ways to strengthen small-scale fish farming and its contribution to food security. The project has joined forces with CIDAB (Research and Development Center for Aquaculture in Bolivia) Bolivian universities and experts from Canada and Brazil to review the history of fish farming development in Bolivia, identify bottlenecks, create protocols to improve the technology and production.
