The freshwater fishing resources of the Amazon require more careful study, especially for their nutritional value and productive potential. In Bolivia, fish production chains have received little attention both from those who design public policies and from the producers themselves, which means that the fishing sector has not developed with the same intensity as other productive sectors.

This research, of a fully participatory nature with local actors, characterizes and evaluates fishing activities in the northern Amazon of Bolivia, thus opening an important gap for research - action and for the definition of conservation and sustainable use policies. The study identifies the social and economic aspects of the productive chains of both native species and paiche, a species introduced in the area, within which a series of conflicts occur, such as, for example, those that are the result of the lack of definition of the rights to use the resource.
